Rebuilding infrastructure destroyed during the war is still the priority. A key project is likely to be the reconstruction of Highway 1, linking Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Saigon). Ports and railroads will also require rehabilitation, and construction has begun on two new port facilities, at Vung Tau in the south and Cai Lan in the north. Trains travel slowly in Vietnam, with an average speed of around 9 miles an hour. The journey from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City takes three days.
